Overview of the Best Areas to Stay in Cyprus

In Cyprus, your choice of base really matters! It’s bigger than most people expect, and with around a two-hour drive from west to east, it’s not somewhere you’ll want to be hopping between areas every day. Picking the right location up front will make your trip much easier.
There are two main airports to know about here. Larnaca, on the south-east coast, is the main international gateway, while Paphos has its own airport on the west side of the island. If you’re staying in that part of Cyprus, flying into Paphos can save you a fair bit of travel time.
Once you’re here, each area has its own feel. Paphos is the best all-round base for first-time visitors, with a mix of beaches and historical sites. Limassol has more of a city vibe, with a marina and great restaurants, as well as access to inland areas. Then you’ve got Larnaca, which feels more local and laid-back, while Ayia Napa is known for its beaches and nightlife, as well as its proximity to Cape Greco.
We’d definitely recommend renting a car here. Buses are limited, and so having our own wheels made our trip so much easier!
- Paphos – Best for first-time visitors – A great all-round base with a mix of beaches and easy access to top sights across the west coast. Aquamare Beach Hotel & Spa is a solid pick right by the sea with a relaxed, resort-style feel.
- Limassol – Best for city vibes – A lively coastal city with a modern marina and easy access to the Troodos Mountains. NYX Hotel Limassol is a stylish mid-range stay in a central location, perfect for exploring the city.
- Larnaca – Best for a relaxed, low-key stay – A more local and laid-back area with a waterfront promenade and the main international airport nearby. Sun Hall Hotel is a great option right by the beach and close to restaurants and shops.
- Ayia Napa – Best for beaches and nightlife – This area is famous for its beaches and buzzing nightlife, and it also offers easy access to Cape Greco National Park. Corfu Hotel is a great-value stay within walking distance of both the beach and the town center.
Important Tip
Multiple Cyprus trips have taught us that this island doesn’t reward spontaneity when it comes to planning. The good places get snapped up months in advance, leaving the overpriced and underwhelming options for last-minute travelers.
The sweet spot for booking Cyprus accommodations is 3-4 months out—enough time to secure good rates but not so far ahead that you’re locking in plans excessively early.
Where to Stay in Cyprus
Paphos

BEST FOR FIRST-TIME VISITORS
Pros
- Great beaches and scenery
- Lots of historic sites
- Well set up for tourists with plenty of hotels and restaurants
Cons
- Can feel a bit resort-focused in parts
- Less lively at night compared to other areas
Paphos is one of the best places to stay in Cyprus if it’s your first time visiting. This is where we stayed, and it’s got a bit of everything, so we didn’t feel like we were missing out at all! Plus, it makes a convenient base for exploring the rest of the island, and we took a couple of fun day trips from here.
One of the main highlights here is the history. Kato Paphos Archaeological Park is packed with ancient ruins and mosaics, and nearby you’ll find the impressive Tombs of the Kings. Then, down by the water, Paphos Harbor is a great place to walk around, with plenty of restaurants and views of Paphos Castle.
And as mentioned, Paphos is also well placed for exploring further afield. Aphrodite’s Rock is a short drive away, and the beaches at Coral Bay are some of the best in the area. If you’ve got a car, heading out to the Akamas Peninsula is well worth it for more rugged scenery.
We think Paphos works really well if you want a bit of everything in one place. The main drawback is probably that it’s not the most energetic part of the island, but it’s a great all-round base with plenty to see and do.
Elysium – $$$

Elysium is one of the most impressive places to stay in Paphos, especially if you’re looking for a more luxurious, resort-style experience. It’s located right by the sea and close to the Tombs of the Kings, so you’ve got a great mix of beach access and nearby history.
The hotel feels very grand, with elegant architecture and spacious grounds, as well as a beautiful pool area that looks out over the water. There are multiple restaurants on site, plus a spa and direct access to the coastline. It’s ideal if you’re planning a vacation that involves lots of rest and relaxation at the resort! Rooms here usually start at around €400 per night.
If Elysium is fully booked, Annabelle is another fantastic option nearby, right by the waterfront, with lush gardens and a more relaxed, classic feel. It’s a great choice if you want something upscale but slightly less formal.
Ivi Mare is also a great alternative with a more modern, adults-only setup. It’s set right by the sea and offers a peaceful atmosphere, which makes it ideal for couples.
Aquamare Beach Hotel & Spa – $$

Aquamare Beach Hotel & Spa is a great option if you want something comfortable and well-located without spending too much. It sits just outside the main center of Paphos, right by the sea, so you’ve got easy access to the beach and a more relaxed atmosphere.
The hotel has a classic resort feel, with a large outdoor pool and direct beach access, plus an on-site spa if you feel like unwinding. The rooms are simple but comfortable, and the overall setup works really well for a laid-back stay. Rooms here usually start at around €200 per night.
Another great option nearby with a more village-style layout and plenty of space is Aliathon Aegean. It’s an especially good choice for families, with multiple pools and restaurants on site.
M Boutique Hotel is a super-stylish alternative closer to the center, with a minimalist, eco-chic design that will really make your Instagram pictures pop! It’s an adults-only hotel, so it’s ideal for a more relaxing or romantic stay.
Rooms – $

Rooms is a great budget-friendly option in Paphos if you’re looking for something simple but well-located. It’s set in the Old Town area (Ktima), which gives you a slightly more local feel compared to the main resort strip.
The setup here is pretty basic, but it’s clean and comfortable, with a couple of boutique touches. You’re also within walking distance of cafés, shops, and local restaurants, which makes it a nice base for exploring a different side of Paphos. It’s not a luxury stay, but we think it’s great for those on a budget! Rooms here usually start at around €100 per night.
If Rooms is sold out for your travel dates, Basilica Holiday Resort is another affordable option closer to the harbor with apartment-style accommodation and a pool. It’s a practical choice if you want more space and a resort feel, without the accompanying price tag!
Kentrikon 1924 is also a great alternative with a bit more character, set in a historic building in the Old Town. The rooms are pretty compact, but they’re decorated in a clean, chic style, and you get breakfast included with your stay.
Limassol

BEST FOR CITY VIBES
Pros
- Atmospheric Old Town
- Polished and modern marina
- Lots going on
- Good base for exploring inland areas like the Troodos Mountains
Cons
- Less of a traditional “holiday resort” feel
- Not the best beaches
Limassol is a great choice if you’re looking for a more city-style stay in Cyprus. It feels a bit more modern and energetic than places like Paphos or Larnaca, with a busy waterfront, plenty of restaurants, and a strong nightlife scene.
We really like this area because it gives you a mix of old and new. The Old Town (Lemesos) has a local atmosphere, with narrow streets and historic spots like Limassol Castle. Meanwhile, the nearby Limassol Marina feels much more polished, with waterfront dining and a more upscale vibe! Then, the Molos Promenade is also a great place for a walk along the seafront.
Limassol is also well located for day trips. You can easily visit the ancient Kourion Archaeological Site or head inland to the Troodos Mountain villages for a completely different side of the island.
We think Limassol works best if you want a lively base with plenty going on, especially in the evenings. It’s not the most traditional beach destination, but it’s a great mix of city life and culture, and it offers excellent access to other parts of Cyprus.
Royal Apollonia by Louis Hotels – $$$

Royal Apollonia by Louis Hotels is a great choice if you want a more upscale, beachfront stay in Limassol. It’s set right on the water, so you’ve got direct beach access along with plenty of restaurants and bars nearby.
The hotel has a classic resort feel, with a large pool area, sea views, and a relaxed but polished atmosphere. There are a few dining options on-site, plus a spa and indoor pool if you want to unwind. It offers a nice balance between comfort and convenience, especially if you still want easy access to the city. Rooms here usually start at around €350 per night.
Another standout right on the seafront, Limassol Del Mar is close to the marina and some of the city’s best restaurants. It offers sleek, modern apartments with high-end finishes, plus a pool and wellness facilities.
Crowne Plaza Limassol is also a lovely resort closer to the center, within easy reach of the Old Town and Molos Promenade. It has a beachfront setting with a pool and a sumptuous spa, plus sea view rooms and four restaurants on site.
NYX Hotel Limassol – $$

NYX Hotel Limassol is one of the most stylish options in the city, and it’s a great pick if you want to stay somewhere with a bit more personality. It’s located in a central spot, so it’s easy to explore both the Old Town and the waterfront from here.
The hotel has a modern, design-led feel, with bold interiors and a fun atmosphere. There’s also a stunning rooftop infinity pool and bar, which is a great place to hang out in the evenings. This whole place feels young, vibrant, and colorful, so we think it’s the perfect choice if you want something trendy on a more modest budget. Rooms here usually start at around €200 per night, with breakfast included.
If NYX isn’t available, Ajax Hotel is another reliable option. It’s set a bit more inland, but it’s still close to shops and restaurants with a more classic feel, featuring indoor and outdoor pools, a spa, and a fitness center.
Atlantica Miramare Beach is a great alternative right by the sea, with easy access to the beach and coastal promenade. It offers a more resort-style setup, with multiple pools, restaurants, and spacious rooms, so it’s perfect for rest and relaxation.
Harmony Bay Hotel – $

Harmony Bay Hotel is a great budget-friendly option if you want to stay near the beach without spending too much. It’s located along the coastline, just a short drive from the main center of Limassol.

Chrielka Hotel is also a good alternative near the waterfront and within walking distance of the promenade. It’s a small and friendly hotel that offers studios and apartments with private kitchens or kitchenettes, so it’s perfect if you want to save money by doing some self-catering while in Cyprus.
Larnaca

BEST FOR A RELAXED, LOW-KEY STAY
Pros
- More local feel compared to other areas
- Close to the main airport, which makes arrival and departure easy
Cons
- Not as lively as places like Limassol or Ayia Napa
- Fewer big attractions than other parts of the island
Larnaca is a great choice if you’re looking for a more relaxed and low-key base in Cyprus. It feels more local than other parts of the island, with a slower pace and a less tourist-heavy atmosphere, which we really liked.
The main hub of the area is Finikoudes Beach, where you’ll find a long promenade lined with palm trees and lots of indoor/outdoor cafes. Just behind it, you’ve got the Church of Saint Lazarus, one of the most important religious sites in Cyprus, and it is worth a quick visit.
There aren’t as many major attractions in Larnaca as in the other areas we’ve talked about so far, but there are still some interesting spots to visit. Larnaca Salt Lake is known for its flamingos in the winter months, and close by, you’ll find Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque. You’ve also got Mackenzie Beach, which is perfect if you’re seeking a livelier vibe in the evenings.
We think Larnaca works best if you want somewhere easy and relaxed, especially for a shorter stay. It’s not the most exciting base, but it’s convenient, comfortable, and a good way to experience a more local side of Cyprus. It’s a great choice if you’ve stayed in Paphos or Limassol before and want something different this time!
Radisson Blu Hotel, Larnaca – $$$

Radisson Blu Hotel, Larnaca is one of the most modern and upscale places to stay in the area. It’s located slightly inland, so you’re a short drive from the beach, but still close to the city center and main attractions.
The hotel has a sleek, contemporary feel, with spacious rooms and great views over the city and coastline from the higher floors. There’s also a rooftop pool and a fitness center, as well as a couple of restaurants on site. It delivers that 5-star comfort you’d expect from a Radisson property, and the included breakfast is a big bonus! Rooms here usually start at around €220 per night.
If Radisson Blu is fully booked, The Ciao Stelio Deluxe Boutique Hotel is another great option right by Mackenzie Beach. It offers a more intimate, adults-only stay with stylish rooms and a beachfront restaurant, and it’s a great choice if you prefer independent properties over big chains.
Sun Hall Hotel – $$

Sun Hall Hotel is a really solid mid-range option in one of the best locations in Larnaca. It sits right across from Finikoudes Beach, so you’re within walking distance of the promenade – yay!
The hotel is simple but comfortable, with clean rooms and many offering sea views. There’s a pool and restaurant on-site, but what really takes this place to the next level is the warm and attentive service, as well as the delicious breakfast! We think it’s a great pick if location is your priority and you want to be right in the middle of everything. Rooms here usually start at around €190 per night.
Another good option, just a short walk from Mackenzie Beach and close to the airport, is Best Western Plus Larco Hotel. It has modern rooms, a pool, and a small fitness center.
Leonardo Boutique Hotel is also a stylish alternative closer to the center, within easy reach of shops and restaurants. It has a more contemporary design, with comfortable rooms and a relaxed feel.
La Veranda Hotel – $

La Veranda Hotel is a fantastic budget-friendly option in Larnaca, especially if you want to stay somewhere close to the beach without spending too much. It’s located near Mackenzie Beach, so you’re within easy reach of the sand, as well as plenty of bars and restaurants.
The hotel is simple but well-kept, with clean, comfortable rooms and a relaxed atmosphere. There’s also an on-site restaurant and bar, plus friendly service that makes it feel welcoming. It’s not a luxury stay, but it’s a really great choice if you’re looking for good value in a convenient location. Rooms here usually start at around €90 per night.
If La Veranda is sold out for your dates, Frangiorgio Hotel is another great option closer to the center, within walking distance of Finikoudes Beach and the main promenade. It offers modern rooms and a rooftop pool, and its central location makes it easy to get around!
The Josephine Boutique Hotel is a stylish alternative right by Finikoudes Beach, so you’re steps from the water and surrounded by restaurants. It has a small rooftop pool and contemporary rooms, which makes it a great value pick in our book!
Ayia Napa

BEST FOR BEACHES & NIGHTLIFE
Pros
- Some of the best beaches in Cyprus
- Lively nightlife with lots of bars and clubs
Cons
- Can feel very busy and touristy, especially in summer
- Not the best fit if you’re after a quieter stay
Ayia Napa is best known for its beaches and nightlife… Okay, mostly it’s nightlife! It’s one of Europe’s most famous party destinations, so if you’re looking for late nights and loud music, this is where you’ll find it.
But it’s not just about partying. Ayia Napa is also popular thanks to its stunning beaches. Nissi Beach is the standout, with soft white sand and clear, shallow water. It’s an amazing spot to go swimming, and it’s very lively, with lots of beach bars around. If you want something a bit more scenic, head to Konnos Bay or explore Cape Greco National Park, where you’ll find walking trails with some really beautiful viewpoints.
There’s also more here than just beaches. Ayia Napa Monastery sits right in the center of town, and the nearby MUSAN Underwater Sculpture Museum is a unique spot if you’re into snorkeling or diving. But to be perfectly honest, if you don’t enjoy nightlife, Ayia Napa is probably not the place for you!
We think Ayia Napa works best if you want a fun, social stay with great beach access. It’s ideal for group trips and bachelor or bachelorette parties!
NissiBlu Beach Resort – $$$

NissiBlu Beach Resort is one of the best luxury options in Ayia Napa, especially if you want to be close to the beach without staying right in the middle of the nightlife. It’s just a short walk from Nissi Beach, so you’ve got easy access to one of the best beaches on the island.
The hotel has a modern, upscale feel, with bright, stylish rooms and great facilities. There’s a large outdoor pool, an indoor pool, a spa, and multiple dining options, so you’ve got everything you need on site. It’s a great choice if you want a more relaxed stay while still being close to the action. Rooms here usually start at around €400 per night but can go up to €900 during peak season.
Another one of our top choices here, Adams Beach Hotel & Spa is a huge family-friendly resort right on Nissi Beach – hello, waterslides! Staying here puts you just steps from the sand and all of the top beach bars, and you’ve also got multiple pools and restaurants on site. It’s like one big beachfront playground!
Nelia Gardens is also a good alternative closer to the center, within walking distance of both the beach and nightlife. It’s a bit more modest than the other options, but it’s well-maintained and in a great location.
Corfu Hotel – $$
Corfu Hotel is a great mid-range option if you want something comfortable and well-located. It sits slightly elevated above Ayia Napa, so you get nice views, but you’re still within walking distance of the town center and nearby beaches.
The hotel has a simple, modern feel, with a gym and a pool. It’s not fancy, but the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the location works well if you don’t want to be right in the heart of the busiest areas. Rooms here usually start at around €180 per night.
If Corfu Hotel is unavailable, Blue Harbour Boutique is another great option right in the center, close to the harbor and main strip. It’s airy and modern, with a Boho-chic vibe and easy access to restaurants and bars.
Aktea Beach Village is a great alternative near Nissi Beach, within walking distance of the sand and local shops. It has a more resort-style feel with apartment-style units and the option to go all-inclusive.
Anthea Hotel Apartments – $

Anthea Hotel Apartments is a great budget-friendly option right in the heart of Ayia Napa. It’s located close to the main strip, so you’re within easy walking distance of bars, restaurants, and nightlife.
The setup is simple, with self-catering apartments that give you a bit more flexibility during your stay. There’s also a pool and a lively atmosphere, especially during peak season. It’s not the quietest place to stay, but it’s a great pick if you want to be in the middle of the action without spending too much. Rooms here usually start at around €120 per night.
If Anthea is fully booked, Simos Magic Beach Hotel Apts is another affordable option close to the center and within walking distance of nearby beaches. It offers simple apartment-style accommodation with a pool and a social, lively vibe, making it great for group trips!

Renting a Car in Europe

Exploring Europe by car is a fantastic way to uncover hidden gems—think charming villages, scenic countryside, and off-the-beaten-path spots that trains and buses might miss. Driving here is generally straightforward, but it’s good to be prepared for some regional quirks.
We always use Discover Cars to book our rentals and can’t recommend them enough. It’s super easy to compare prices, check company ratings, find automatic cars (which can be tricky in Europe!), and add affordable full coverage insurance.

AIRALO e-SIM
Up To 15% Off With Code “DTRAVEL15”
What’s an eSIM?
An eSIM is a digital version of a SIM card. Instead of buying a little plastic chip and swapping it into your phone, you just download it. It connects your phone to a local network in whatever country you’re visiting — no stores, no waiting, and no fiddling with tiny cards.
In simple terms, it’s the easiest way to get data and stay connected while traveling.
We’ve tested a bunch of eSIMs in North America, and after a few frustrating experiences, we’ve found our favorite — Airalo. It’s fast, reliable, and incredibly easy to use. You can set it up in minutes (even my mom managed it solo on her first try!), and the prices are some of the best out there.
🔥 Hot Tip: Choose the Europe-wide eSIM! It works across multiple countries, so you can hop from France to Italy to Spain without ever losing connection. One download, endless adventures.
